29 September 09 - Arc-Resistant Switchgear
UEE is pleased to announce that the company is presently designing its own Arc-Resistant Switchgear. General Manager Mark Burleigh says: "Following the companies' long history of ongoing product development and as a CSA certified manufacturer of metal-enclosed and metal-clad switchgear, UEE is scheduled to complete testing of its type 2C+ Arc-Resistant switchgear early in 2010. This will allow UEE and its customers to promote a higher level of safety in the use of medium voltage switchgear".
The Arc-Resistant design will meet all regulatory requirements and will utilize vacuum circuit breakers manufactured by Tavrida Electric.
Tavrida Electric North America is excited about the new long term partnership with UEE. Managing Director Dr. Christian Sasse says: "Together UEE and Tavrida can set new standards in both safety and reliability for Arc-Resistant Switchgear. Tavrida's circuit breakers are so compact that it is possible to design Type 2C+ switchgear where any fault in the bus compartment is completely confined.

29 September 09 - Paul Bayston Retirement
Today Paul Bayston, President and CEO made the following announcement
"Two years ago I announced to the owners of our companies that my retirement date would be December 31, 2009.
This date is now rapidly approaching.
My career with our companies started in 1993 as President. Since that time our business has grown substantially and evolved into a successful manufacturing and service group. During these years we have acquired other companies and divested of some of our non performing business, always with the goal of being the best at what we do. I have been fortunate to have owners who have supported me with every difficult decision that had to be made to reach our goal. Furthermore I have always had staff, both present and past, that worked hard to ensure that our objectives were met. It has been an exciting and rewarding journey that has taken me to every corner of the globe. One of the responsibilities of my job, is to ensure that a succession plan is in place to enable our companies to not only continue with its present successful business model, but also grow with new business opportunities.
In this regard I take pleasure in announcing that the Board of Directors have appointed Mark Burleigh to the position of President effective January 1, 2010. Mark has worked for me for the past ten years in various capacities, the most recent as General Manager of UEE. I am confident that Mark, with the support of all employees, will guide and lead our companies to a bright future.
I am also pleased that I have been asked to remain on the Board of Directors where I will assist in the corporate governance of our companies and contribute to the strategic direction of our businesses.
Until the end of the year, nothing changes. I will make further information available in the forthcoming months".
Paul E. Bayston
President and Chief Executive Officer
