This modular distribution system is designed primarily for use in underground hard rock mines and other heavy industry applications. The system is comprised of two basic enclosures: a cable termination or a splice box and a main switchgear enclosure which consists of starters and feeders used to supply power to mining equipment. These components can be separated to allow extension of services along a drift.
The enclosures can be used as stand-alone units or they can be banked to form a complete distribution center as show below. The main advantage of this modular system is its easy installation in an underground setting. No drilling, tapping or cutting is required to build or expand a stand-alone unit into a complete distribution center.
The simple removal and installation of single power cable feeders and motor starters contributes to an efficient mine operation.
